The camper set-up

We get a lot of questions about our camper from strangers along the way and people online. Here’s our setup.

Truck: 2018 Toyota Tundra TRD
We chose the Tundra for reliability and because the truck is wide enough that you can sleep across the top (sideways) as apposed to lengthwise in the Four Wheel Camper (FWC), thus saving space. The truck size also allows for a greater payload which is useful when carrying a full tank of fresh water. We also went with the standard SR5 model to ensure that we had a long enough truck bed for the Hawk model FWC.

Professional Truck Modifications:
• ARB Bumper
• Baja Design LP9 Sport LED Auxiliary Light Pods
• COMEUP Winch
• DirtCom Trail Swing – swing away for spare tire, Maxtrax MKII’s and Rotopax Fuel Cans
• Falcon Sport Rear shocks and DayStar Air Bag for leveling
• TeraFlex and KYB front shocks

Personal Truck Modifications:
After our trip to Alaska in 2024, we decided that we needed more storage. So Monique and I did a “2/3 seat delete” – meaning we removed 2/3 of the rear seat and built out multiple cupboards. This provides us with a “garage” for things like the axe, the shower tent, the jack etc, the “bathroom” where we store towels, toiletries, the “hidey-hole” for computers and a nice shelf to throw the backpacks onto.

Camper: 2021 Hawk Model Four Wheel Camper
TBH, we picked the camper because we had the truck already AND Sprinter Van Campers are crazy expensive! We started with the base model and went from there…

FWC options/add-ons:
• Front Dinette – we love the extra space this gives in the “kitchen”
• Refrigerator/Freezer – 2-Way 85 Liter – has proven large enough for two people for around 5 days
• Redarc 180W Solar on the roof and Overland 130W Bugout flexible solar panel
• 2nd AGM Battery
• Powered Roof Fan
• Thermal Pack
• Furnace
• Hot Water Heater and Outside Shower
• Roof Rack Tracks
• Bat 270 Degree Awning
• Exterior LED Lighting
• MULE Rack Mount for extra water or fuel (shown above with USA sticker on it)
